Deadlocking night latches are like regular night latches in that they sit on the surface of the door instead of an internal lock. They operate in the same way, adding an extra level of security to your home.
With the same mechanism as a traditional night latch, deadlocking night latches benefit from allowing you to lock the latch with a key. To unlock the night latch, you can use the key from the outside or the knob from the inside.
However, turning the key on the outside in the opposite direction to lock the door will restrict the latch into its closed position. This addition results in the knob on the inside being disabled and will not open the lock from the inside. This is ideal in instances where you are leaving the house and nobody else is at home but be wary that you can lock someone inside.
